Membership in the CB Village is open to any adult (18+) living in Crestone/Baca who wants to share his/her skills with, or have needs satisfied by, other members.
Membership is entirely voluntary and there is no cost to join CB Village.
Membership requires a formal request to become a member through: (a) filling out one of the original survey or registration forms, (b) registering online, (c) phoning in the request to the CB Village Coordinator, or (d) registering by mail to our P.O. Box 173.
Membership requires signing a Waiver of Liability, Claims, and Indemnification form to be held in a file by the Secretary of the Board of Directors.
The CB Village Board of Directors reserves the right to disqualify any Member (as a quorum vote) for inappropriate conduct or any other reason that they deem unworthy behavior for participation as a Member in good standing.
If a person is reluctant to join CB Village because he/she doesn’t have the time to offer skills or services, we encourage such a person to join anyway in order to potentially benefit in a time of real need. This could lead to a negative Karma Share account, or it might provide an opportunity for the Board of Directors to exercise the right to pull shares from the Reserve Account to benefit that person.
PUBLICIZING MEMBERSHIP DATA
A list of those Members who want to be listed is posted on the CB Village website, describing skills, expertise or preferred ways to be called upon for service, so that other Members can review this information before making their requests for service.
There is also posted on the CB Village website a list of those Members who wish to be listed with specific needs, so that other Members seeking to volunteer can review the possibilities for applying their skills.
If anyone desires anonymity, CB Village is glad to serve and directs him or her to directly contact the CB Village Coordinator.
CB Village will honor the confidentiality of anyone we serve who requests that his or her needs and situation be kept confidential, that is, known only to the Coordinator and possibly to the Board.
The extent of CB Village responsibility is to put a person in need together with a person who can help address that need. Though CB Village may ascertain how well the exchange went and learn that more might be required, CB Village’s responsibility ends with matching a person in need with someone who can help.
If materials are needed for repairs or care, the policy of CB Village is not to outlay monies for any person in need who contacts us. Our responsibility is to put together people in need with people who can serve those needs, not to provide financial assistance.
Requests for service can be made directly between a person in need and a service provider, or such requests can be made through the Central Coordinator. In either case, information for keeping the accounts should be forwarded to the Central Coordinator.
Providing service is entirely voluntary, and given upon request; and, if it is not convenient, for whatever reason, to render service when requested, it is totally acceptable to decline.
There is no guarantee that service will be provided, for our system of mutual assistance is predicated on the goodwill of a caring community.
The nature of all service provided must comply with all existing pertinent laws as well as fit within the reasonable scope for persons with limited experience or training. Members are not to administer medications or perform medical procedures, unless they are specifically qualified.
As there can be bottlenecks about certain services, such as the need for firewood cutting, CB Village recommends that such transactions take place as early as possible, so that our limited number of volunteers can address potentially congested situations.
WAIVER OF LIABILITY
All members of CB Village, including all officers of the Board of Directors, must sign the universal waiver of Liability, Claims, and Indemnification form that is available in printed form or online at our website, www.cbvillage.net, and these signed forms are to be kept in safe keeping by the Secretary of the Board of Directors.
Donations are always gratefully accepted to CB Village, which is in the process of becoming recognized as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation.
